Alright, you are a new webmaster and you need to know a few important things
that will keep your website in business and making money. Consider search
engines as your gods. Most of the traffic goes via search engines and you must
do everything you can to keep them happy. In return, you will get to the top of
searches when people search for certain keywords. The key word here is
optimization. You need a website that is well-optimized as optimized means
higher rank, and higher rank means more traffic.
There are two basic types of optimization and they are on-site optimization and off-site optimization.
Once you have done on-site optimization and you have your website as perfect as you
can, it is time for some off-site optimization. Here, your king is link
building. Think of it as a popularity contest. The more pages you are linked
to, more visible you are and more traffic will come your way. It is important
to keep in mind that quality is much more important than quantity and that you
need as many high rank links as possible. Also, be sure that the websites that
you are linking to deal in relevant content to yours.
There is no point in linking to church sites if you are dealing in hand grenades. As your off-site
optimization progresses, you build a certain link base that needs to be updated
as regularly as possible and even though it is a time-consuming process, it
pays off in heaps. You CAN hire other people or companies to do it for you, but
you never know what you are getting and they don’t do it for free. Also, keep
your eyes open for .edu and .gov domain links as these are considered the best
and the highest ranked.
